The Nexus One is coming January 5, but it still doesn’t matter.
According to the obsessives over at androidguys.com, Reuters is reporting Google will be selling the Nexus One starting January 5 online, and that over time they’ll sell it through carriers as well.
Look, I’m a big man, but I’m also very petty, and I’m almost entirely always right. Okay? So I’m willing to entertain the possibility that the Nexus One is a real phone. Maybe my review copy got lost in the mail, but even if that were true, it wouldn’t explain the lack of a phone call by Eric Schmidt to see what I thought of it. In any case, even if the phone is real, it still won’t change anything.
Some analyst in the article is quoted as saying this:
Baird Research analyst Will Power said: “We expect the launch of a new competitive device to be directionally negative for most of the existing smart phone markers, including Apple, Research in Motion, Nokia Oyg, HTC, Motorola Inc, Palm Inc, Samsung and others, while perhaps most negative for the existing Android partners.”
Which I think is bunk. Sure, the phone will be popular with a whole bunch of nerds and Linux users, but you know what? Linux users are only 1% of the world, so screw ‘em. Screw ‘em! Google will still face a colossal uphill battle getting people to tell the difference between two virtually identical phones just because one’s unlocked.
Anyway, keep trying, Google; I’m sure that one day you’ll cure that case of Apple envy. In the mean time, most of the world will happily continuing to not understand what it is you’re trying to sell them.
(I took the photo in this post from Reuters.com. Shut up.)
You, as well as all the others out there who said android won’t succeed have a harsh reality coming… apple fan boy
Careful, there. I never said Android wouldn’t succeed; I just said that people won’t care about Google’s Android phone. BIG difference.
